Three days of Stick Immersion!
NY Stick 2024 is a Chapman Stick event in Brooklyn hosted by NY guitarist/Stickist Randy Hudson, Chapman Stick legend Steve Adelson, and Vancouver Stick player Jim Meyer, seen here at the Analog Alien booth at NAMM 2018. This is a 3-day Stick immersion experience in and around Brooklyn, including instruction and performance.
NY Stick 2024 is a Musical Gathering for people who play the Chapman Stick, the 2-handed tapping instrument family developed by Emmett Chapman. Players of all skill levels, are welcome to come and make music together. NY Stick is an opportunity to mingle, learn, compose and perform with fellow Stick players from near and far. It’s a great opportunity to share ideas and techniques!
And NY Stick is a celebration of the life and creations of Emmett Chapman (1936-2021).
Guest Instructors - Jim and Steve!
Vancouver-based Chapman Stick player Jim Meyer has been hosting Stick retreats and seminars in British Columbia for over 20 years. Jim also hosts a monthly Stick With Friends performance in Vancouver’s Gastown district, and performs as Sticks and Tones with drummer Dave Symington.
As a jazz guitarist, Steve Adelson saw Emmett perform live in 1984 and instantly knew he needed a Stick. Steve’s numerous recordings frequently include A-list jazz musicians as guests. Plus those nights at the Iridium playing with Les Paul! Steve has travelled the globe teaching and performing on the Stick and has influenced countless players.
Venue
Randy has set us up at King Analog/Digital Recording Studio in Brooklyn for the seminar portion of the weekend. Here are a few pics of the space and equipment.

Steve and I are happy to let attendees determine topics for discussion at the seminar. But if everyone is shy, we’ve prepared a list to fall back on:

There will be a limited number of Sticks available to use during the seminar. We can’t guarantee any particular tuning or setup, but will try our best to accommodate.
