Celebrating over 20 years of Stick events in British Columbia
Stick Camp Canada is the 22nd annual Chapman Stick gathering in British Columbia hosted by Vancouver Stick player Jim Meyer, each featuring a diverse group of international Stick players.
The Stick Camp Canada is a Musical Vacation for people who play the Chapman Stick, the 2-handed tapping instrument family developed by Emmett Chapman.
Stick Camp Canada is a gathering of players of all skill levels, in order to share ideas and make music together.
Instructors - Bob, Jim, Kai and Japhlet!
An early adopter of the Stick, Bob Culbertson has been playing and teaching on the instrument since the ’70s. Bob’s music incorporates elements of Celtic, Spanish, Classical and Blues. Always exploring, Bob has added handpan, digeridoo and Shruti box to his recordings and performances. Bob’s Lessons on the Chapman Stick video series has helped countless Stick players. Visit stickmusic.com to find out more about Bob.
Jim Meyer is a Vancouver-based Chapman Stick player and the host of Stick Camp Canada. This is Jim’s 22nd International Stick event in British Columbia. The events draw Chapman Stick players from across North America, South America and Europe. Jim’s latest projects include Sticks and Tones (with drummer Dave Symington) and performing alongside Vancouver vocalist Luna Wild.
At age 15, Kai Kurosawa got his first bass guitar and began composing with it. He moved on to Chapman Stick, eventually landing on Kubo, aka “Aircraft Carrier”, a unique, 15-string, 2-handed tapping instrument. Kai performs jazz, progressive metal, rock, pop and electronic music and has lead music clinics on three continents. He is currently based in Los Angeles.
Japhlet Bire Attias is a Chapman Stick player based in Mexico City, performing solo and in a variety of ensembles. Japhlet’s recorded material includes originals, jazz and prog covers, Latin American, World, Experimental, and music performed live for silent films. Japhlet was a big part of Stick Camp Canada in 2018 and 2019, and we look forward to his return!
